White pedicure vs French tip: which one I pick (and the shoes for each)

Two pedicures that sound the same and absolutely are not.

Okay, real talk: every time I sit in that pedicure chair I go back and forth between two looks. Clean, glossy white, or a classic French tip. They sound almost the same. They are not. Here's how I decide, and what I'd wear with each one.

Team white: bright, fresh, a little bit beachy

Team French tip: polished, goes with literally everything

So which one, Shauna?

My rule: if the week is mostly sandals, slides and errands, white. If there's a dinner, a work thing, or any chance I'm wearing heels, French tip. When in doubt, French. It's the one I never regret.

Doing it at home? My cheat sheet

  1. Soak, then gently file any rough spots. A two-sided foot file makes this quick.
  2. Push back cuticles and add a drop of cuticle oil. Wipe the nail clean before polish or nothing sticks.
  3. Pop in foam toe separators so you don't smudge your own work.
  4. Two thin coats beat one thick one. A classic lacquer like OPI (pick your shade) works for both looks; for the French, paint the tips with a steady hand or a strip of tape as a guide.
  5. Want it to last through a whole beach week? A gel kit with a UV light is what I'd grab.
